This Spring term we are learning about irresistible Italy and the roaming Romans! Over the next few weeks we will be looking at the spread of the Roman Empire. We will discover how we owe many of our greatest innovations to the Romans, including our roads, and even our sewers. We shall also be investigating how Rome got its name, and compare our very own Accrington to Italy’s capital city Rome. Where would you prefer to live?
The fun continues with marvellous mosaics and erupting volcanoes where we will recreate our own eruption of Mount Vesuvius! Wait there’s more… you will have a taste of Italy with our Great Italian Bake-off and food tasting session, which will tickle and tantalise your taste buds! FANTASTICO!
In English, we have started the term by writing wonderful weather poems, using onomatopoeia and personification to enhance our poetry. We will read and write fables, so watch this space for our fabulous fables that would teach you a lesson or two! Have a look at our long term plan for all the ‘Fun Learning’ in Year 3.
As mathematicians, we have started our term learning about Time. Over the next few weeks, we will have fun with fractions, solve tricky division sums, measure volume, capacity and mass. This will hopefully prepare us for our Bake-off when we bake buns that will BLAST you out of this world! The fun doesn’t stop there as we will be multiplying, finding statistics, measuring and solving mind boggling money problems.
As scientists we will be ROCKING and ROLLING with our ‘Rocks and Soil’ topic. So get ready to be introduced to our Rocking Rocks and the story of ‘Simon the Soil’ and MUCH, MUCH MORE!
Spellings will be sent home every Monday. The children will be given a spelling test on Thursday. All the children are expected to learn their spellings.
Homework will be sent home every Friday. This may consist of English, Maths or Creative Curriculum. All completed homework must be returned the following Monday. Please remember to complete the homework section in the Reading Record.
In Year 3 all the children must read to an adult for fifteen minutes every day. Please remember to write a comment about your child’s reading in the Reading Record.
All children must learn their times tables and be prepared for their Times Tables test on Friday.
Please make sure your child has their P.E. kit in school.
Our P.E Sessions are timetabled for:
3G: Monday and Wednesday
3ZK: Thursday and Wednesday
Thank you for all your support. Please feel free to drop in after school if you have any questions about your child's learning.
